
Prof. Dr. habil. Josef Börcsök’s Summary
Prof. Dr. habil. Josef Börcsök is a full Professor at the University of Kassel where he is the head of Computer Architecture and Systems Programming and he is additionally the HIMA Executive Vice-president Research + Development located at the HIMA headquarter offices in Brühl – Germany.
He was educated in Germay where he gained two Engineer degrees from the Universities of Darmstadt and Kassel. After finishing his studies he worked as development engineer for Real Time Computer Systems. He earned his PhD in electrical engineering from University of Ilmenau. He had worked for years as a leading person in safety critical avionics development. After that he joined to HIMA development. He leads this department since beginning.
During his 20 years career, in a variety of areas such as Avionics, Control systems, Petrochemical-Safety systems, Refining and Petroleum Industries, he gained significant experience performing Research, Technical Management, hardware & software engineering, process control engineering, troubleshooting and field instrumentation using advanced control, distributed control, SCADA, emergency shutdown, fire & gas, compressor control and PLC systems.
In June 2004 Prof. Börcsök has become HIMA’s first TÜV Functional Safety Expert for, Software and Hardware and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) with the new International Functional Safety Accreditation program from the TÜV Rheinland Group. His TÜV FS Expert ID is 0103/04 and can be found on the TÜV website (www.tuvasi.com).
He is a registered Member of IEEE, BSC, IEE, ISA and a member of several standard committees for control and safety system. Also he leads the Fieldbus Foundation technical team for SIS. He holds patents in the safety bus systems area and has written several books and papers involving critical instrumented systems.
